QANTAS A330-300 QF59 Economy Class – Sydney to Tokyo (Haneda), New Meal Tray Service In Economy (4K)

Join me as I head to Tokyo and Sapporo for a sneaky long weekend away.

After enjoying my usual breakfast in the Qantas First Lounge (access courtesy of Frequent Flyer Status) it was off to the gate for boarding. Today we were boarding from Gate 26D, which is a bus gate.

Some people don’t like these gates due to the added time to board, plus needing to use the remote stairs, rather than walk straight on via a aerobridge. However, for anyone interested in aircraft, aviation etc, it can offer some amazing sights getting up close to many different aircraft at ground level.

After a slight delay, we were on our way, with only a very short taxi before entering Runway 16R.

This was also the launch day for the new meal tray service in Economy, plus some new food items, and cocktails. The new tray, whilst not as big as the one they previously used 10 years ago, is a massive improvement over the small White serving trays, which were the size of the actual meal item, requiring anything else, ie Bread to be balanced on top. The new tray will easily accomodate the Meal, Bakery item, Side Salad or Dessert, plus Cutlery instead of crew having to hand these to you separately.

For a 10hr flight, 2 hot meals, mid-flight snack service and other snacks on call, you won’t go hungry. Also the new Gin Based Cocktail was amazing.

Some of the cloud formations over Papua New Guinea were stunning.

Even with the slightly delayed departure, we arrived pretty much on time, it did not take long to pass through immigration and then it was on to the train, and at the Hotel within 30 minutes of arriving. Staying in Tokyo for the night, then flying to Sapporo the next morning.

  1. Thanks for another great video. Those shots from the back of the bus passing the taxiing and parked aircraft were a great inclusion.

  2. Finally got time to watch the video. Love the take off sounds. Fluffy white clouds over PNG plus the rivers snaking through the wild landscape. Dont know why Qantas gets a bad rap so much!! I have found there is enough space in Economy if used wisely. Being in the rear of the cabin is where there is a better chance of getting a vacant seat beside you. Looking forward to the Scottish videos coming shortly. Regards, Les.
