If you’re wondering what the sound of hundreds of Japanese taiko drums being struck at once sounds like, then check out the Narita Drum Festival, which will take place this weekend: Saturday April 19 and Sunday April 20. This festival is held in the historic Naritasan temple district, just a short train ride from Narita International Airport—probably close enough that you’ll be about to hear the thunderous sound of the drums even if you’re taxiing on the airport runway. Visitors can enjoy stage performances throughout both days along the historic Omotesando temple road, culminating on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM with a grand finale parade. There will be large-scale performances at 9:30 AM on both days in front of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple, and a special evening concert there on Saturday at 5:00PM.
