Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that connects body, Earth, and rhythm?
Taiko Retreat: Godai is a unique 9-day immersion into the art of taiko and the sacred landscapes of the Kumano Kodo. Led by taiko artist and dancer Carrie Alita Carter, this small-group retreat begins with 4 days of hands-on taiko workshops at a serene forest retreat in southern Wakayama. Through meditation, energy work, movement, and rhythm, participants engage in a kind of energy work—exploring the Five Elements of Godai—Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, and Void—as they come to life through the drum.
Then, the experience deepens with a 3-day guided hike along the UNESCO World Heritage–designated Kumano Kodo, a pilgrimage route traveled for over a thousand years. Walk beneath ancient cedar trees, bathe in sacred waters, and visit historic shrines—carrying the rhythm of taiko with you.
This retreat is for those with some taiko experience who seek creative renewal, spiritual grounding, and meaningful community—through the drum and through the Earth.
