TOKYO (Kyodo) — Japan on Tuesday released a commemorative 500 yen coin for the World Exposition that opens in Osaka this weekend.
The coin, featuring the Expo’s official mascot Myaku-Myaku on one side and its logo on the other, is available at banks and post offices nationwide and can be obtained for the same face value.

The size, weight and material of the commemorative coin are the same as a regular 500 yen coin.
The Finance Ministry prepared over 2.2 million coins, hoping to boost the public mood for the upcoming event. It follows the issuance of the commemorative gold and silver coins last month.
