Often referred to as ‘The Garden of France,’ the Loire Valley is known for its incredible number of historic chateaux dotted throughout landscapes of rolling hills and vineyards. These expansive vineyards produce award-winning Saumur wines, which many visitors choose to sample guided wine cellar tours.

These hills are also dotted with picturesque villages of cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, like Chinon, where Joan of Arc first met the Dauphin, Amboise, with its royal château on the banks of the Loire, and Tours, the mediaeval capital of France.

Good Housekeeping has a trip to the Loire Valley which will take you to several of its grandest chateaux, including the spectacularly ornate Château de Fontainebleau and Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years.

Another highlight of the trip will be a visit to Monet’s spectacular garden at Giverny, where you’ll see the beautiful Japanese water garden, the inspiration behind some of his most celebrated paintings.
