teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka, the permanent Night Open-Air Museum in Nagai Botanical Garden in Osaka, will once again showcase Life is Flickering Light Floating in the Dark – Nemophila. The exhibit is planned to be on view from April 10th to May 18th.
The Nemophila in the dark shine brightly. When people stand still close to them, they shine more brightly and produce a tone. The light of that Nemophila then radiates out, spreading to nearby Nemophila as they resonate with the same tone.
The exhibition period may shift depending on the flowering condition of the flowers. Ticket holders are advised to visit the website for the latest update about the artwork prior to visiting.
Additionally, Floating Resonating Lamps on Oike Lake – Ambiguous Cherry Blossom, where the lamps on the Oike Lake shine and resonate in cherry blossom colors, and Floating, Resonating Spheres, where the spheres of light change color and resonate with each other while emitting a sound tone unique to that color, will also be on display until April 13th.
Each of the lamps on the Oike Lake’s surface floats autonomously. When a person stands still near a lamp, or when the wind blows a lamp, it shines brightly and produces a tone. The light of that lamp spreads to nearby lamps one by one, as they resonate with the same tone, continuing on to the trees on the islet in the center of the lake. If light approaches from the other side it signifies the presence of people there, making people more aware of the existence of others in the same space.
When the wind is not blowing and people are not nearby, the lamps begin to blink slowly.
The spheres of light are autonomous. When a person touches a sphere, or when the wind blows it, its color changes, and it emits a sound tone unique to that color. One after another, the surrounding spheres successively change to the same color and emit the same tone.
When there is no wind, and nobody touches the spheres of light, they begin to blink slowly.
