⁴ᴷ Okayama: Niimi Station (岡山県: 新見駅) – Japan Walking Tour (March, 2025)
Just like last month, I took the ferry from Yokosuka Port and arrived at Shin-Moji Port in Kitakyushu City. From there, I crossed the Kanmon Strait back to Honshu and began my journey along the Seto Inland Sea, heading toward Tokyo.
I traveled from Hiroshima Prefecture to Okayama Prefecture, and this time, instead of capturing the hustle and bustle of a busy downtown area, I wanted to film a town with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere—so I made my way to Niimi Station.
The footage is overall quite dark, conveying a sense of stillness, with the town’s atmosphere subtly seeping through. The streets along the old road, developed during the Edo period, have a charming, historical feel that gives a sense of the town’s deep-rooted past. If you’re visiting for sightseeing, I’d definitely recommend exploring during the daytime.
While walking through the darkness of night, I occasionally passed by others out for an evening stroll. At one point, I looked up at the sky as I walked and noticed small pink lights floating here and there. It turns out they were lanterns set up for cherry blossom viewing in Shiroyama Park. I heard there are around 300 cherry trees there, and that the area becomes a popular hanami (flower-viewing) spot in the spring, drawing many visitors.
