KITADAKE 3-DAY HIKE

Shinjuku Station – Kofu Station

Limited Express Train: ¥ 3,890
1.5 hours

Local / Rapid Train: ¥ 2,300 – ¥ 2,500
2.5 hrs – 3 hrs

We took a train from Shinjuku Station in the evening of Friday then camped around Kofu Station after arriving. Most people sleep in the station with their sleeping bags to catch the earliest bus to Hirogawara at 4:15 in the morning.

Kofu Station – Hirogawara Bus Stop (First Bus: 4:15AM)
Bus: ¥ 1,950
2 hrs

From Hirogawara Bus Stop, walk along the road in the direction of the tourist information center. Cross the bridge and then continue to the trail until you find a junction point that forks the trail. Walk the left trail to Okanbasawa if you are planning to cut the hike and camp straight to Kitadake-sanso hut. But if you want to camp in Kata-no-koya like what we did in this vlog, take the trail on the right for Shiraneoike Hut.

Shiraneoike Hut is a good place to eat lunch and to fill up you water bottle. From here, the trail becomes very steep and requires great amount of energy.

From Kata no Koya, we woke up at 3:30AM and unpitched our tent and got ready to continue the 1 hour hike to Kitadake summit. We made our breakfast in the summit and spent some nice time

From the summit, we summited few more mountains and 2 being the 4th and 15th highest mountain in Japan – Ainodake and Notoridake respectively. Along the hike are two huts. Kitadake sanso and Notori-goya. Most hikers who do the 3 days hike opt to stay in Notoridake-sanso but that would mean that they will spend the whole day hiking on their last day. We decided to go straight to Daimonsawa Hut to cut another 4 hours of hike on the next day.

We spent a total of 10-11 hours of hiking on the second day and about 3-4 hours of rest. We stopped in each hut to eat and some places to take a nap. We didn’t sleep well on the night before because it was too cold and we were all sharing only one sleeping bag.
