Taiwan wins food, definitely. Even if you only compare local cuisine, Taiwan is better, but they also have a lot more foreign cuisine options. And yes fruit is a huge point — i basically never eat fruit in Japan because it costs a fortune. What do they do with the imperfect fruit anyways? Let me buy that, Japan.
The only good thing about Taiwan night markets is the plethora of gorgeous of Taiwan girls. I found some good food in Taiwan but it is carbohydrate heavy.
