:: March 31, 2025
:: Tokyo, Japan
:: Michie Kakihana, Tokyo resident
:: “It’s never been as bad as this before. I’ve always been able to see the beautiful cherry blossoms under clear blue skies, but this year is the first time I’ve been so disappointed.”
:: Alison Roberts, Australian tourist
:: “I think it looks beautiful along the river. I know it’s gray and a little chilly, but actually that adds a little, interest, it adds an interesting perspective, the fact that we’re welcoming spring and we’ve got these beautiful cherry blossoms, and yet it’s pretty cold.”
With light rain and the mercury only hitting a high of 48F (8.9C), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, some people were left feeling short-changed.
Visitors in the capital’s Ueno Park were undeterred by the chilly weather, with many taking part in traditional “hanami” or “flower viewing” picnics under the trees.
