Formula 1 fan reimagines Red Bull merchandise with Japanese initials as Yuki Tsunoda replaces Liam LawsonImage credit: Yuki Tsunoda/Instagram Formula 1 fans in Japan have a new reason to celebrate with Yuki Tsunoda, the Japanese driver, taking over as the new driver for Red Bull. He recently replaced rookie Liam Lawson to compete for Red Bull alongside reigning number-one driver, Max Verstappen. As the mood builds for the Japanese Grand Prix, an F1 fan has reimagined Red Bull Racing merchandise in the style of the American baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Can Red Bull merchandise have Japanese initials?

A fan took to Reddit to share the idea of spelling the team name in Japanese on Red Bull Racing merchandise, similar to how the LA Dodgers spell their name between two red lines for having Japanese players on board. Many on Reddit believe this could be a great idea for the upcoming third race of the season at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.
The post received mixed to positive reactions on Reddit. One user commented, “Something about this tells me it will be more popular among non-Japanese audiences. Red Bull doesn’t localize their logo in Japan, and the Japanese are pretty sensitive to typography on merch.” Another user reacted, “Japanese words look so cool.” Some comments expressed excitement: “I want this” and “I’d buy one if they actually did it.” However, one user disagreed, writing, “Why? Only 1.5% of the world can read that. Bad idea, jeans.”

In response to speculation that Tsunoda might get one of these shirts for himself, a Reddit user said, “The Japanese tribute was for Honda, the company that provided them with power units to win a world championship. Not gonna happen with Tsunoda.” Another user remarked, “It’s fair to assume that Yuki won’t be able to make it work… But imagine how insane it would be if he nails the weekend and somehow wins the GP. That’d be a groundbreaking storyline.”

Red Bull has similar caps for the Japanese Grand Prix, but the design has not been incorporated into t-shirts and other merchandise. Red Bull has undergone a major driver overhaul, with Liam Lawson being sent back to Racing Bulls and replaced by senior driver Yuki Tsunoda.
