Farm Tomita is the most famous lavender farm in Hokkaido. It is a 45-minute drive from Asahikawa Airport, a 5-minute cab ride from JR Nakafurano Station, and a 7-minute walk from Lavender Field Station, a temporary station where only the temporary train “Norokko-go” stops. Farm Tomita first became famous in 1976 when it was introduced in the calendar of the Japan National Railways at that time. It quickly attracted attention, and tourists began to visit the area from all over the country.
There are a number of flower gardens within the grounds of Farm Tomita. The “Traditional Lavender Field” is the origin of this flower field. The entire slope looks like a carpet of purple flowers!
Farm Tomita’s representative “Field of Colors” is usually at its best from mid to late July. The purple lavender, white cassis, red poppies, pink komachi grass, orange California poppies, and other flowers color the gently sloping hills like a rainbow. The contrast with the bright blue sky makes for a great photo opportunity!
Lavender East, where you can enjoy the perfect location, is located in the Higashinaka district of Kamifurano Town, about 4 km east of Farm Tomita toward the Tokachi Mountain Range. It is one of the largest lavender fields in Japan created for lavender oil production, and visitors can watch the harvesting of lavender in late July.
Recommended for summer! JR Hokkaido special train “Norokko”
The “Norokko-go” is a trolley train that runs between Furano, Biei, and Asahikawa, operating only from June to October every year. During this period, a temporary station, “Lavender Field Station,” is conveniently located about a 7-minute walk from Farm Tomita, so why not take advantage of it? Enjoy the view of the Taisetsu Mountains in the distance and the soothing scent of lavender on the wind.
