Asakusa wears its history on its sleeve. A staple in every guidebook — and for good reason — this district is where to go for a taste of old Tokyo.

The iconic Sensōji Temple, with its towering red pillars, shares the streets with eccentric architecture and the swish of lacquered wheels as rickshaw pullers — hair slicked back, sleeves rolled just so — navigate through the tourist crowds. Looking for things to do in Asakusa? Here are 14 ways to make the most of your time in this must-visit locale.

  1. I wonder when Hollywood is going to come knocking on Patricia's door? She would look even more stunning on the big screen! Such a natural in front of the camera and great video.

  2. Tip: Go to Sensoji temple in the early morning before shops open on a weekday to get good photo/video footage without all the people in the way.

  3. I recommend coming back a second time at night, around 9pm. The temple is illuminated and all the shops are closed, so a lot less people around. Start at the tourist information center observation deck, which is open until 10pm! Then walk down the Nakamise Street up to the temple and also take a look around the surrounding alleys. You can get some beautiful night shots of the temple and the gate without the crowds!

  4. Patricia is such a great host, with a mix of humor and street smarts. Love her and I love that she’s now a regular to the channel ❤

I’ve visited Asakusa several times already, even before the recent tourist boom. What I like are the old-school shops around Sensoji. Hope that it doesn’t become too “touristy” in the future

  5. Kitchen street ftw.
I was challenged by a sumo to a drinking contest on who can finish a beer fastest at one of the izakayas. Needless to say, he destroyed me, but the experience was worth it.
