Tokyo Gas has unveiled a bold strategy to nearly double its net profit by the 2026 fiscal year, with a significant focus on expanding its operations in the United States. According to a report by Reuters, the company aims to grow its net profit to 131 billion yen ($871 million) in the 2025-26 fiscal year, up from 72 billion yen for the year ending this March.
The company’s medium-term management plan includes a new share buyback of up to 120 billion yen in the first half of the 2026 fiscal year and a dividend increase by 10 yen to 80 yen per share in the current fiscal year. Tokyo Gas is also looking to enhance its coordination between liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading and shale gas businesses in the U.S., while expanding its LNG trading globally, particularly through hubs in Singapore and London.
Tokyo Gas has earmarked over 1.1 trillion yen for investments and plans shareholder returns exceeding 200 billion yen in fiscal years 2026-2028. Additionally, the company is considering selling around 100 billion yen worth of real estate to optimize its portfolio. Despite these announcements, Tokyo Gas shares closed 2% down in Tokyo.
