This year’s afternoon tea is a collaboration with Tsuruya Yoshinobu, a Kyoto confectioner that has been in business for 220 years! The special items for this event were created jointly by HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO and Tsuruya Yoshinobu, which produces new products with a modern flair while carefully preserving traditions based on the family motto of “Creating Yokimono. Enjoy the encounter with such fantastic items as Kyo Kanze chocolates in the shape of Kyo Kanze, a long-selling product created in 1920, and savories with walnut miso paste sandwiched between crispy mouthfuls of monaka.

[This is the first time HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO will hold a Japanese-themed afternoon tea. Not only sweets, but also Japanese savories such as fried prawns and rice balls are on standby. The free-flow menu includes drinks made with matcha green tea, so ask for a recommended pairing.

The most noteworthy items at the Japanese afternoon tea are sweets using Tsuruya Yoshinobu’s red bean paste, which until now has been considered off-limits to the public. Must-try Western sweets such as an-butter madeleines and macaroons made with sencha green tea and sweet bean paste, which are in perfect harmony with an (red bean paste). The hotel-made dorayaki also sandwich Tsuruya Yoshinobu’s secret sweet bean paste. This is a special opportunity to taste the red bean paste from a long-established bakery founded in 1803 from various angles.

The Japanese afternoon tea menu includes about 10 kinds of delicately crafted sweets, 7 kinds of savories, and more than 20 kinds of free-flowing drinks for 8,800 yen. [The charm of the tea is that you can relax and enjoy the elegant cherry blossoms in the Japanese garden while enjoying the special sweet treats created in collaboration with Tsuruya Yoshinobu. Enjoy the luxury of having the fantastic spring scenery of Kyoto all to yourself.
