‘Tandy600’ reveals: ‘Japan is my first and only solo travel experience, but it was so easy to get around and there was plenty to experience on my own. Some might say that locals in the big cities are more closed off so you’re less likely to socialize as a solo traveller, but, anecdotally, I met a Japanese man in line by himself at a popular ramen spot and we ended up chatting and having dinner together.’
South Korea
South Korea is ‘completely safe’ says ‘Organic-Roof-8311’, a woman who lived there for six months. She reveals: ‘As a woman I could walk alone at 3am and be completely safe. The culture was so kind.’
Meanwhile ‘TorontoPanda416’ loves the country’s late-night culture, explaining: ‘Often solo travelling, I struggle with what to do at night as I don’t want to go to bars or clubs by myself. Korea was perfect because everything is open late and it’s very safe. Could get a haircut, manicure, watch a movie, shop at like 10 or 11pm which is rare in other countries.’
China
‘Heartsong80’ explains that their current favourite destination as a solo traveller is China, revealing: ‘My recent favourite is China which is to my surprise. Now I yearn to keep going back.’
‘Thundercracker76’ adds: ‘It was probably one of the few places where I made some genuine human connection with the locals as a solo traveller even without speaking a single word of their native language.’

They say: ‘It’s super safe, Reykjavik is compact and there is loads to do for a solo traveller. Nobody bats an eyelid in restaurants and bars.
‘On my solo trip, I went whale watching and did a day tour to the glacial lagoon. In the evenings I watched live music in the bars and chatted to locals and some other tourists.’
Maldives
The Maldives might be best-known as a honeymoon destination but it’s also a great destination for solo holidaymakers looking for a safe trip abroad says one tourist.
‘No-Boat-5857’ says: ‘Most relaxed I’ve ever been. Picked a nice resort and you just stay on that tiny island the whole time – because of this there were no concerns with security or safety.
‘They even have lifeguards patrolling the beaches and villas, so swimming alone isn’t dangerous. Safety is always top of mind for me as a female if I travel solo. Incredible water and sand and sea creatures as well.’
