Izu Peninsula Geopark is an area with an abundance of beautiful landscapes and natural resources on the Izu peninsula of Shizuoka Prefecture. It boosts the economy and culture of the area, resulting in optimal regional development. Its most iconic features are defined by the ‘volcanoes gifted from the south’, which refers to how the Izu Peninsula was a volcanic island in the southern Philippine Sea. In 2018, it was certified by UNESCO as the ninth global geopark in Japan.
