KUWANA, Mie — Organizers flipped the switch on the annual major illumination event at the Nabana no Sato tourist facility here on Oct. 18, bringing to shining life an LED Mount Fuji and its surrounding forests that is this year’s theme.

The display opens to the general public on Oct. 19, and will run until June 1, 2025. The lights are turned on after sunset daily.

The 155-meter-wide main venue features a sweeping field of lights anchored by the 35-meter-tall Mount Fuji. The display changes every eight minutes, showcasing 13 different scenes, including “Blue Fuji,” representing the rich nature of the surrounding sea of trees, and “Red Fuji,” inspired by the ukiyo-e art of Katsushika Hokusai.

Additionally, a new attraction has been added this year: a 100-meter tunnel of light called “sea sakura,” which is inspired by the image of cherry blossoms blooming over a vast ocean. Other highlights include “the great river of light,” a water illumination display where the lights move like the Kiso Three Rivers running in central Japan’s Nobi Plain, and the “field of light flowers,” featuring glowing flowerbeds in a three-dimensional design.

The event organizer commented, “We hope people from Japan and around the world will enjoy the grandeur of Mount Fuji.”
