Japan’s government will promote the charms of Japanese anime and manga at the World Expo in Osaka, which opens next month.

“Anime Manga Tourism Festival” is slated to be held from April 30 to May 2, targeting expo visitors from abroad.

It is part of the government’s new “Cool Japan” strategy aimed at helping the country’s content industry grow further.

Facilities will be set up to introduce various works including one that features late legendary manga artist Tezuka Osamu. Local governments related to artists are also planning to operate booths that introduce works and sell goods.

Plans for the event include stage appearances of voice actors and a traditional Japanese Bon Odori dance that features anime theme songs, among other attractions.

Kiuchi Minoru, Minister of State for “Cool Japan” Strategy, said the expo is a perfect opportunity to promote Japanese culture as visitors will come from around the world.

Kiuchi added that he wants to promote visits to remote areas of the country using this opportunity, and create a virtuous cycle involving Japan’s regional revitalization.
