Is Singapore Really Cheaper than KL??

Finding out if Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is really more expensive than Singapore. A while ago, one opinion went viral. This Malaysian man stated, “Singapore is cheap with local buying power, compared to KL”. I haven’t visited KL for quite a while, so I visited to find out if this is true. What is the cost of living like in 2025?
Thank you iChang & Jimmy for appearing briefly. I filmed another video with them, so stay tuned! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtbpZEdyGM6xfOaX_rv-H_A

  1. If you're eating out all the time, especially at the tourist belt, it's pretty expensive in KL. Food vendors really jack up prices to unreasonable levels. But if you cook at home, it's quite affordable. That's why I hardly eat out and prefer to cook, using quality ingredients, the quantity I can manage, the style I want. A lot of the food can be quite unhealthy, you'll get obese or chronic diseases eating out so much.

  2. With $2000 what u can buy in Singapore and with 2000 ringgit how many things u can buy in kl…. I believe Singapore is cheaper.

  3. You're going to all those upscale restaurant in KL. Of course it is expensive. Locals don't go to those kind of restaurants for every meal. Try asking the local how they handle the daily meal. Local food court outside major shopping mall is your clue. FYI Kopi-O kosong doesn't have sugar. The waitress most possibly mess up your order and add sugar to your kopi-o kosong. No they don't add sugar when roasting the coffee beans, they used margerine to roast the beans.

  4. It is true… if you live and earn RM in Malaysia .. really expensive. If you earn SGD and live in SG… relatively cheaper. We do not earn 3.3x more salary than SIngaporeans. Only downside… rental or accomodation is very expensive.

  5. U eaten in amongst the most expensive place in KL which normal local folks don't eat on daily basis, and yet u are comparing to local food court in Singapore?

Why not u try local Chinese hawker center that normal Malaysian go for daily meals and make a proper comparison ?

  6. Malaysia food prices is affordable, some even cheap. You can get local meal(chicken) + teh O under RM6-7 However the income of the locals are way to low compared to SG.

So yeah it's not that food is expensive it's their income is too low.

  7. We did this analysis and the key expense in Singapore is rent. Teachers in Singapore can’t afford to live in the same square footage as those in Malaysia.

Food is not too dissimilar, but if you go to night markets can get local goods cheaper, local eateries are cheaper. Grab is about half the price of Singapore, but on Singaporean wage would feel similar. The Singaporean tube goes to more places and is cheap.

For those with families, private education is much more affordable in Malaysia. We have many Japanese students for this reason.

  8. ONe thing people fail to undestand is that KL is not cheap but RELATIVELY cheap, an only for expats. For Malaysians, KL is expensive as fuck.

I'm from India, I've lived in both KL & SG. For me, the only aspect that KL is better in is that I could afford better condo for cheaper rent. that's it. everything else is relatively expensive compared to SG. SG being well-developed offers the best amenities and infrastructure and of course that will come at a cost but are you going to complain about it? the public transport, well-covered walkways, hygienic food courts, good healthcare, and solid education (if you have kids).

I actually saved up more money in SG than I did in KL.

KL isn't bad and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to live in a well-developed city which provides all the amenities, it's a fun & vibrant city but it's still a developing country so, you will get frustrated from time to time. SG, on the other hand, is heaven, especially for people immigrating from third world countries.

  9. Many people here live with closed eyes. MRT in Europe has comfy cushioned seats for decades. In Europe, nobody can enter your apartment block unless they have the key to entrance downstairs. So there's no need to worry about strange people. And there's no excessively overcrowded trains and malls to make people anxious. I want to vote for a party that has the power to go back decades in time and implement these things. 😂 Because clearly, there are far too many neurotic, ill and angry people here.

  10. When comparing spending power, conversion rates shouldn't be taken into account at all. It should be based on local prices and the average local salary. Why keep converting it back to Sing dollars and comparing it with the Singaporean cost? The Malaysian prices being cheaper than Singaporean prices after conversion doesn't prove that KL has lower goods prices. But as someone who has been living KL for a few months 2 years ago. A bowl of noodles at a normal kopitiam at the Puchong area can easily cost you rm10, and we are not even talking about fancy food courts, it's literally just a kopitiam situated on some random streets of old buildings. And no, from what my friends in KL told me, the average monthly salary of residents in KL is definitely not RM8000 (and only ONE person was asked?), it's usually RM3-5K. I'm not sure how others see this, but this is definitely a very BAD comparison video. Methodology was extremely unreliable and ineffective.

  11. Those so called New immigration to SG – Malaysian Tried to avoid talked about the smaller one bed room cost SgD 600-800 and mostly without any freedom have to stay with the Owner

  12. It's definitely more expensive in Malaysia in local terms. You should have compared spending RM$100 vs SG$100 for exact same items at normal price in the local supermarket e.g. AEON/Giant vs FP/Sheng Siong.

  13. Malaysian food and groceries always expensive. They become more expensive after covid. But if you are factoring rent, healthcare and other expenses, KL will be slightly cheaper than Singapore. It will be a lot more cheaper if you live outside KL

  14. Singapore everything cheap than Kl. I work one week at singapore can buy iphone. Work kl need three months to buy iphone 😂
