Kumamoto in a day: local eats, spotting Kumamon and Kumamoto Castle! (Japan Travel Vlog)

Kumamoto in just one day!
A city full of history, culture, and a certain bear mascot that’s impossible to miss, and also cute 🐻✨

We arrived the night before by shinkansen from Fukuoka, checked into our hotel, and got some rest. The next morning, we started the day with a run 🏃 before heading out to explore.

First stop: Kumamoto Castle Inari Shrine, followed by a walk along Tsuboi River towards the iconic Kumamoto Castle 🏯, where we spend the morning exploring the castle’s elevated walkway and Castle keep.
Then it was snack time at Sakura-no-baba Josaien, where we tried horse meat sashimi (a local specialty!) 🐎
A visit to the Lafcadio Hearn Residence, followed by a sweet stop for famous Manjus, before heading to Suizenji Garden during sunset, and finally ending the day with Kumamoto-style ramen 🍜

Kumamoto turned out to be the perfect mix of samurai history, local flavors, and a laid-back charm. We really enjoyed this city!

Let us know in the comments—would you try horse meat sashimi? 😳👇

  1. We'll be visiting northern Kyushu (Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Nagasaki) this summer, these last vids have been very helpful to get a glimpse of what's coming!
