Tour de Nippon in Unzen
国立公園「雲仙」を有し、ユネスコ世界ジオパークでもある長崎県島原半島。その北部に位置する雲仙市国見町、瑞穂町は山紫水明の地。諫早駅から島原鉄道の黄色い電車に乗り込んで30分ほど。車窓間近に輝く有明海、その反対側に噴火の痕跡が残る荒々しい雲仙岳が現れる。大いなる恵みと、時に脅威をもたらすほどのエネルギーを秘めた自然の姿に圧倒される。地球の鼓動を感じる大地で生きる人たちの、熱きスピリットに導かれる旅へ。
The Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture is home to the Unzen National Park, which is also a UNESCO World Geopark. The towns of Kunimi and Mizuho are located in the northern part of Unzen City. These places of outstanding natural beauty are a mere 30 minutes ride from Isahaya Station aboard the yellow Shimabara Railway train. The Ariake Sea glistens near the window of the car and the rugged Mt. Unzen, which still bears the scars of its eruption, looms on the other side. One is immediately overwhelmed by nature’s great bounty and energy, sometimes so great that it poses a threat.
