I love winter tubing! I did it for the first time this winter in Idaho and now again in Japan! But this time it was ice tubing down a luge-style track at Furano Ski Resort and it is not to be missed! Not everyone in the group was keen on the idea but in the end, we all did it. And while some screamed as others wanted to go faster, everyone had fun and there were no casualties… only adult sized fun. The hardest part was folding your body to fit within the tube so you didn’t hit anything along the way on the course. That wasn’t a problem for me. I’m short. But all the guys over 6 feet… they had to do their best pretzel impressions and any of them that lied and said they did yoga and were flexible – yeah, they were sniffed out real quick. Alex did an impressive job of curling up in that tiny tube and flew the whole way down!
If you make it to Furano the next time you’re touring around #hokkaido, give yourself time at the end of the day to hang out in the winter village. It’s filled with artisan shops, coffee, ice cream, super cool frozen bubbles and that sweet little ice luge waiting for you to huck your body down. The shops close early so get out there before dinner so you can shop. I missed getting to buy anything which maybe was a good thing because every shop I passed, there was something in the window I wanted!
