JAPAN HAS CHANGED | TOP 9 New Things to Know Before Traveling to Japan 2025
Japan is experiencing major changes in tourism, economy, and culture. In 2024, 37 million foreign tourists visited including Tokyo, Osaka boosting the economy but also causing over-tourism issues in Kyoto and Mt. Fuji. Meanwhile, rural tourism is struggling due to population decline and labor shortages. At the same time, soaring rice prices are forcing restaurants to raise menu prices. Additionally, the Japanese ESTA system, set to launch by 2030, aims to streamline entry for foreign visitors.

Thanks for this video! What if a future government feels that 60 million inbound tourists a year are too many? There definitely needs to be more work on tourist behavior.
OMG!! I hope Japan does not end like Thailand with the SEX industries. It's a shame if it happens. I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 3 years and hated Americans and European men coming to Thailand for young prostitutes. That is their main commodity. SERIOUSLY!!! The country in Asia with the highest HIV cases.
Thank you for your channel. It is very informative. I am a Filipino and I love Japan.
'Educating' holidaymakers isn't going to solve any real problems. The idea that this is all based on some misunderstanding, that those who stalk geikos and get in their faces to take pictures, that those who use shrines as exercise equipment, that those who do impromptu dance performances in busy trains simply don't understand Japanese manners rather misses the point. These people don't have any manners or respect, full stop. Things like this are considered obnoxious behaviour anywhere in the world, not just Japan. It's just that they're more likely to get away with it in Japan than in Mexico, India, China, Saudi Arabia or the US.
Thanks for the updates and info. A lot to take in but great to know ahead of visiting. New sub!
Really useful information, Meg, thank you.
I hope you're not unwell, but why are you masked up when you're by yourself, indoors? Either way, hope you're strong and healthy. We need you on your guided tours! ❤🕊️🤘🏻
Been going to Tokyo every year and now we are back again… I could feel overtourism at Shibuya crossing, Sensoji Temple, Ginza Street & Omote Sando especially during Weekends … so avoid it unless you love overcrowding, noisy, loud talking, photo taking tourists
You notice worker shortages.. Yamachan a popular Izakaya run by Indians, Buta Daigaku a local favourite butadon shop run by Thais .. definitely feels less authentic
The esta regulation aim to promote tourism? What a joke
Tourist are not the problem..📸.. It's the type of person who treats everywhere they go to as a theme park 🏞️..In the UK we get the same problem
