Travel, Trip, Journey And…Now Japan : 0069 Shiokaze Line
Hey everyone, welcome back to MinimalLife Misaeng! I’m traveling around Japan in my car, following the coastline and discovering some of the most incredible hidden gems. After visiting Meikyodo Cave, my 68th stop, I continued along the coast, and now I’ve arrived at my 69th destination—the Shiokaze Line (しおかぜライン). This is one of the most scenic coastal roads in Japan, and let me tell you, if you love driving with an ocean view, this place is a dream come true.
Shiokaze Line is a beautiful seaside highway that runs along the coast of Wakayama Prefecture, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. As soon as you start driving here, you’ll see endless blue stretching out in front of you, with waves crashing against the rocky shore and salty sea breeze filling the air. It’s the kind of drive that makes you want to roll down your windows, turn up your favorite road trip playlist, and just soak in the moment.
The name “Shiokaze” (しおかぜ) literally means “salt breeze”, which is so fitting because you can actually feel the fresh ocean air as you drive. Unlike some highways that just take you from point A to point B, this one is an experience in itself. Every turn gives you a new view of the coastline, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the sun sparkling on the water or waves crashing dramatically against the cliffs.
One of the best things about Shiokaze Line is that there are plenty of viewpoints and rest stops along the way, so you can pull over, stretch your legs, and take in the scenery. Some spots even have small cafés where you can grab a coffee while enjoying the sound of the waves. And for those who love photography, this road is full of picture-perfect moments—whether it’s the winding road hugging the cliffs, the deep blue ocean, or even a golden sunset reflecting off the water.
Another reason why this road is special is because it’s not just about the views—it’s about the feeling of freedom. Driving here, with nothing but the open road and the ocean beside you, it’s one of those moments that makes you appreciate the beauty of travel. Whether you’re a solo traveler, on a road trip with friends, or just someone who loves scenic drives, this is definitely a place you’ll want to experience at least once.
If you ever find yourself road-tripping through Wakayama, make sure to add Shiokaze Line to your route. Whether you drive through it quickly or take your time stopping at the viewpoints, it’s a road that lets you truly experience the beauty of Japan’s coastline.
Alright, that’s it for today’s adventure! Next, I’ll be heading to [Next Destination], so stay tuned for more amazing coastal spots.
