Unveiling Kumamoto Castle’s Main Tower After 5 Years of Restoration Works 熊本城主塔再度亮相经过五年修复

Kumamoto Castle, a historic landmark in Kumamoto City, Japan, has undergone significant restoration following the devastating earthquakes of April 2016. The main tower, or “tenshu,” was reopened to the public in April 2021, marking a major milestone in the castle’s reconstruction.

After extensive repairs, the main tower reopened in April 2021, offering visitors a chance to explore its exhibits and enjoy panoramic views of Kumamoto City.

A 350-meter-long walkway, elevated between 5 to 7 meters, was constructed to provide unique perspectives of the castle and its ongoing restoration efforts. This path allows visitors to observe the castle from angles previously inaccessible.

The main tower features exhibits detailing the castle’s history, the impact of the 2016 earthquakes, and the restoration process. Multilingual audio guides are available through a dedicated smartphone app, enhancing the visitor experience.

While the main tower has been restored, the comprehensive restoration of Kumamoto Castle is an ongoing project. The full restoration is now projected to be completed by 2052, with continuous efforts to preserve and reconstruct the castle’s structures.
