⛄️❄️Yokoya Valley – Nagano (横谷渓谷 – 長野)

A spectacular frozen waterfall in a hidden valley

⛄️❄️There is a 6km long promenade along the Shibukawa River, where you can enjoy a relaxed hike. There are four waterfalls, and from early January to late February you can see icefalls. The sight was spectacular and special. Because it is a hidden spot, we hardly met anyone.

It takes about three hours round trip to the end, but we turned back about halfway through. The trail becomes a gentle uphill from the middle, so it takes some physical strength, but it was a pleasant workout.

Viewpoints
1. Kidoguchi Shrine
This shrine stands at the entrance to Yokoya Valley.

2. Otome Falls
The first waterfall you come across after descending the stairs is a powerful one. The name comes from a legend that an Otome (young girl) prayed under the waterfall, and her wish was granted.

3. Kirifuri Falls
The waterfall flows beautifully even while frozen, and is great scenic spot.

📝There are also many other icefalls of various sizes along the way, so it’s definitely a special place.
