  1. Hello and welcome to the Abroad In Japan Podcast. Probably the best way to learn about life in Japan without actually being in Japan. I'm your host Chris Broad, and we're joined as always by England's top Japan enthusiast… Ryotaro? 🤣

  2. Kamikochi is amazing. You can do an overnight hike to the 2nd highest mountain of Japan from there. Yari-Ga (Spear Mountain), It's in my top 3 of the most beautiful nature sites in Japan.

  3. Ryotaro is always a pleasure to see but where is Pete? Pete is an absolute legend and this being a 3 way podcast would have been awesome! Sort out remote viewing station for Pete to join you in the room! Lot's of love to all the abroad characters!

  4. Random student from Akita here. I'm also disappointed that this prefecture got minimal exposure. Although having lived here for more than a year, I can say that there are better places to go (at least for the first time).

  5. I am a repeat offender and might have an addiction. Four trips since May 2023 with have got two coming up in 2025. Nb: Obuse is lovely. We stopped there on the way back from the Snow Monkeys and Onsens and visited the Hokusai museum. The mountain views over looking apple farms from the train station are beautiful.

Going to Kyushu in May. I want to get up close to Mt Aso but my partner has vetoed that and she is content to view from afar. This will be our first driving experience and we are hiring a Honda Fit for the road trip.
Then in November back to ride the Shimanami Kaido. Interestingly finding island accommodation, as I am doing it over two days, was difficult. This will be my second solo trip.

  6. It is a testament to Ryotaro’s warm and generous nature that he has deigned to bring his style, wit, good looks and charisma to the AIJ podcast. I hope Chris is grateful.

  7. Ryotoro is the reason for one of the most fun stories i have about Japan. We visited the incredible old Restaurant in Sendai and it was hilarious. They did not expect two hobo looking backpacker guys to reserve the most expensive course lmao. People getting bored in Japan make me kinda angry, I cannot imagine planning a trip to Japan without having planned a long journey to and from many different places. Even one week in a city is way too long.

  8. I would like to see Ryotaro jumping on some drift ice, I think that would be hilarious to see ❄

  9. rather than being jealous of all the places Chris has travelled to, i'm jealous of how freaking good his memory is

  10. Nagahama Neru comes from Gotoh Island, Nagasaki. Apparently it has lots of lovely countryside.

  11. Lovely to see u both, you were so nice to each other 😂😊 Kurobe Gorge is beautiful , the journey to get there with various trains fr Kanazawa had beautiful views of the snow capped mountains. So scenic in Autumn n cold. The menchi katsu I will never forget at kurobe town, kept me warm 😅

  12. When Tsushima is too far away, the next game will be released, set near Mount Jotei. Maybe there will be more to do there. The game give me the last push to go to Japan for a month 🫶🏻❤️

    Best regards!

  13. Most underrated place for me is definitely Izu Peninsula. I lived in Shizuoka prefecture and visited the peninsula every opportunity I had, especially exploring the hidden beaches in summer. Also, there are more than a few weird and quirky museums, the nature is wild and untouched, and there are so many cute artisanal shops and cafes.

  14. Who elese was trying to get the thigny off ryotoros neck. To find its a bit of dust or something on the lens

  15. Oh, I hope that you go to Toyama and show the train! That was one of the side trips that I was going to do in Japan and didn't have time to get to it – it looks very scenic.

  16. Great to see you guys together and hearing you share your go to destinations in Japan. 👍😜😎

  17. Do you know there is a city called Kochi in India too? It’s in Kerala, a small state in South India.
While Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum for short) is the administrative capital of Kerala, Kochi is kind of the merchant capital as it’s a sea port too.

  18. I'm curious, how exactly is tourism helping Japan at all? Record people visiting, yet it sounds like prices are going out of control and the people there are struggling with various quality of life a issues.
