Shinkansens are typically not that busy most the time. you went during the busy season. I was able to book the exact type of seat i wanted 5 minutes prior to departure of the train i took. additionally, it is much better and less stressful to use a luggage delivery service than carrying your luggage with you on the shinkansen.
Ooh I think one way to address the issue of oversized (or even any-sized) luggages is to get them delivered to your next location via the various delivery services available 😊
