Kyushu-Shikoku-Honshu: 2-Week Van Camping Adventure in JAPAN

Around the Christmas holiday we took two weeks to drive about 1,000 miles from our home in Kagoshima, Japan to the island of Shikoku and back via Honshu. Our main goal was to see Shikoku and we loved it! We mainly stuck to the coastline around the island with a few roads crossing into the lower mountains a bit further inland. Snow and ice on the roads turned us back from the high country, so we will have to return again during another season. We like to stay pretty rural and mostly avoided the large cities, except for the Kochi Castle, located right downtown. The Japanese countryside is fascinating and beautiful. We passed through so many small rural towns. We camped in our van each night, mostly at roadside stations (michi-no-eki) with Taku, our Alaskan Husky. About one full week was on Shikoku with the second week split between Kyushu and Honshu.
