The Greatest Gathering Official Launch! (4K)
Yesterday, Alstom invited RailAdvent over to Derby to officially launch The Greatest Gathering!
We start off this video at Derby station as we see some of the visitors arriving: 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, 37800 and 57307 along with 390016 – a first visit to Derby for the class!
We then head to Litchurch Lane Works, where we hear from the officials on their plans for The Greatest Gathering as well as see 390016 (390200) officially named Railway 200!
We then head outside to see a whistle up and have a good look round the visiting locomotives before heading on a Class 701 on the test track and then finish off our tour with a cab ride onboard 50049!
Finishing the video off, we head back to Derby as some of the visitors make their way home.
You can read our full article from the day here: https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2025/01/alstom-opens-derby-litchurch-lane-works-with-special-guest-locomotives.html
Tickets will be available next week after issues with the ticket retailer’s website but will cost £30 for adult and £15 for children.

I LOVE it !
Which engines are going?
NO APT, NO PARTY
Congratulations on a well edited video. Thank you.
This is the difference between British railways. And the rest of the world. We have a long history of railways. Speed and elegance. The rest of the world copied.
hi, great video, but why was there a pendileno there, ,its the last thing i want to see, the class 50 looks great and well loved
Ohhhhhh wow! I really can’t wait to go in August!
Not for me unfortunately. I went to the 150 in 1975 and whilst it was an organisational fiasco it had plenty of historical locomotives not just two steam locos.😐
Crewe works was the best great gathering In 2005 ❤
Hardly the greatest gathering though . There were far better open days back in the 80s , pity we dont have traction to be proud of anymore really. good video, engines there look superb , well done to the groups that made it happen
Sorry it dosn,t quite do it for me. I ,m old
what a great film well done.
Was lucky to catch 57307 and 390016 at Peartree while with college didn't know it was coming past until it was right on top of me.
Derby Works is responsible for building trains for London North Western Railway. That sound very odd since the home of the LNWR was Crewe not Derby. Webb must be turning in his grave.
I can't wait for this to happen, I've never been inside of a rail depot before
Needs more locos for me to go
The Greatest Gathering? Um, no. But I suppose The Quite Interesting Gathering, or The Mixed Bag Gathering, wouldn't really have cut it as a marketing slogan. Beautifully turned out stock though and a reminder of what BR in the 50s could have been like if they had adopted blue as the new livery instead of Brunswick Green, or GWR green as some of us prefer to think of it…
Not inspired given the wasted time trying to purchase tickets yesterday – sorry
I hope to go there in August, I probably won’t upload much until then
Great Video, love the Class 37, 57, 50 and crowning highlight 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley
A most important historical fact not mentioned was the fact that the FIRST STEEL( NOT IRON) rail was laid at platform one in Derby Station—a massive leap forward in 1857. Six years later the steel rails showed negligible wear , so they soon became used world wide. As the design of rail vehicles progressed they became much heavier so the cast iron original rails quickly wore out, or broke, requiring replacement after a few months.
Surely an LMS (Stanier) engine and a GWR one could have been rostered? Well done to LSL for the cleanest steam engine I've ever seen moving!
Looked like a great press launch, thanks for sharing. Is there any news on tickets for August?
200 years of railway history and the best they can drag up is a plastic Pendolino? couldn't even be bothered to put cast plates on! and why Derby it is the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington lets hope it gets better later this year
Looks boring
Has the event already finished? Online it said it was around August I believe
A4's have the best steam whistles!
The Greatest Gathering! No Mallard, no Flying Scotsman, Rocket, Tornado, Deltic, Locomotion, etc..
I'm still amazed you don't see any elecrification on such a significant rail corridor.
Hope more engines turn up. Class 45 have a lot of history when it comes to the East Midlands area as well.
No Deltic, so not the greatest gathering
