The 30th Kobe Luminarie event will be held from January 24 (Fri) to February 2 (Sun), 2025.
Kobe Luminarie (神戸ルミナリエ) is an annual light festival held in Kobe, Japan, every December since 1995 to commemorate the Great Hanshin Earthquake of that year. The lights, a generous donation from the Italian government, are intricately designed and brought to life by Valerio Festi and Hirokazu Imaoka. Each year, over 200,000 individually hand-painted lights are illuminated using electricity generated from biomass, ensuring the event remains environmentally friendly.

The festival runs for approximately two weeks, with the lights turned on for a few hours each evening. During these hours, major streets in the area are closed to vehicular traffic, allowing pedestrians to stroll through and admire the mesmerizing displays. Kobe Luminarie attracts an estimated three to five million visitors annually, making it a cherished and iconic event in Japan’s winter season.
