2024 Fukuoka and Mount Aso December Holidays

Fukuoka and Mount Aso was the highlight for our Kyushu stopover.

We had already spent 3 nights each in Seoul and Busan, before flying over to Fukuoka.

At Fukuoka, the city was ready to welcome Christmas. Festivals and season markets were buzzing with crowds, soaking in the festive atmosphere. Seoul and Busan celebrations were more muted (was this due to the martial law and uneasy political tension?)

We started and end our Fukuoka adventure with Ramen (Ichiran)!
We stayed at Breakfast Hotel (Nakasu) for 4 nights.
Located between Hakata and Tenjin stations, we could walk to most attractions nearby.

Day 2 was the main highlight for us. We rent a Toyota and drove 150km (3 hours) to Kumamoto’s Mount Aso. Although some attractions were closed, the scenic “countryside” and golden meadows was mesmerising.

Besides all the food sampling, Mrs had a memorable shopping trip too 🙂
There is no shortage of malls, and Hakata City Canal can keep us occupied for half a day.
(I still prefer nature activities like cycling or hiking, maybe not in winter)
