Rotota is a stunner, and one of the most popular sun clubs in the North Island, if not the whole country. It was named from a mixture of Taupo, Tokoroa, and Rotorua – being more or less equidistant from all three.
You can indeed cook over the fumerole vents – if you have a few hours up your sleeve. The lake usually has tourists on a guided boat trip to the Hidden Valley, which is just something to be aware of if swimming or kayaking nude. The concrete hot tub is wonderful and is fed by that pipe directly from the underground geothermal supply.
Nudity= liberty, and in New Zealand, the law allowed you to go nude in the nature. Not only on beaches, but also you can hike naked.
