During the Sengoku period, it was the base of a group of monk warriors called the Negoro-shu, who fought in various places as a group of mercenaries armed with guns.

A sacred place indeed 😮🙏 We have similar wooden style at the Pattaya’s sanctuary of truth (please have a look on google 🙏😇).
Somehow our religions are quite similar, with temples and demon guardians. In Thailand there always have giant demon statutes standing at the entrance, and nagas (water dragon) along stairways. But the Thai Buddha statutes are always slim while in Japan you have a bit chubbier statutes and in China the Buddha statutes are fatty 😂😂

根来寺、色々な歴史的背景のありそうなお寺ですが私の頭では知識が乏しくよく分かりません😅
戦国時代は家康よりだったため秀吉の紀州攻めで寺が取り壊されたのは知っています😀
