NAKASENDO TRAIL: Hiking the Ancient Nakasendo SAMURAI Trail from Magome to Tsumago (JAPAN)

If you’re looking for the most incredible experience in Japan, make sure to add the Nakasendo Trail to your trip. The Nakasendo Highway is the ancient route that used to connect Tokyo to Kyoto, and which travellers and samurai alike used to walk to travel between the two cities.

Today you can still hike sections of this route, and the best preserved section is the Nakasendo Trail from Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku, two ancient post towns that have been perfectly preserved. The Nakasendo Trail is beautiful and scenic, but walking through the post towns will really make you feel like you’re stepping back in time.

Hiking the Nakasendo from Magome to Tsumago was one of the highlights of our Japan trip, check out the video to see what it’s like!
