On that day, a special event called “Hanamachi Soken” was held, and geisha and maiko from Gion East gathered together and visited Minamiza.

Foreign tourists who happened to be there stopped in their tracks, fascinated by the traditional beauty and splendor. In particular, the sight of the maiko walking slowly, smiling, and gracefully proceeding down the street was like a scene from a movie.

While voices of “Daddy, take a picture quickly!” could be heard from all around, one tourist was lucky enough to take a wonderful photo with the maiko. He said that at that moment he felt as if he had encountered timeless Japanese culture.
