JAPAN AIRLINES B787-9 JL90 Economy Class – Gimpo (Seoul) To Tokyo (Haneda) Long Way To Helsinki (4K)

What should have been a late night direct flight with Finnair from Seoul Incheon to Helsinki changed into quite a convoluted journey after that flight was cancelled.

With the alternate option not being satisfactory, I found there was availability to fly directly with Finnair from Osaka in Japan to Helsinki, so quickly booked that flight and made arrangements to get to Osaka (first to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Osaka)…

Then the Osaka to Helsinki flight was cancelled (cancellations due to industrial action by standby pilots in Finland). So by the time I was leaving Gimpo, Seoul to Tokyo, I had already had new flights booked from Osaka to Bangkok, then Bangkok to Helsinki.

What was originally a 13-14hrs flight (ICN-HEL then KIX-HEL) will end up taking the best part of 38 hours. When I arrived at my hotel in Helsinki, it was almost exactly 40 hours from when I checked out of my hotel in Seoul.

The JAL B787-9 that was used for this flight was equipped with a Premium Economy cabin which they don’t sell on this flight, so high status passengers were offered those seats with normal Economy service & Catering. The Pork & Noodles meal was very tasty, as per all my previous Japan Airlines flights, the service was extremely friendly, and efficient.

I did not record much in the KAL lounge at Gimpo due to how busy it was, after having something to eat, I found it more relaxing to just wait at the gate.

Once I had arrived at HND T3 it was a quick shuttle bus ride to T1 for the flight to Osaka, Itami.
