#korea #barbecue #seoul

Hello everyone! In this video we take you to 5 different amazing barbecue restaurants in Seoul, and explain how to eat a variety of different types of meat in hopes of giving you some good recommendations on where to go, and also hopefully to help you know how to eat it. There are so many different types of Korean barbecue that we couldn’t jam them all into one video, so we’re hoping to continue this guide in the future in Busan to make it a series. Thank you all so much for all of your encouragement and support, and enjoy!

  1. Very interesting video. I grew up in Korea in the 80's and back then, almost all meat was grilled on ์—ฐํƒ„ or coal cylinder. ์—ฐํƒ„ ๋ถˆ๊ณ ๊ธฐ, or coal beef bulgogi was very common BBQ and normally grilled before serving. I lived in Korea for a year back in early 2000's and recently revisited and it was very hard to find.. you can't beat the taste of Korean beef cooked over ์—ฐํƒ„.

  2. I'm always excited when there's a new video, it's such a treat to see you both take us through the city. The information you share is so thorough, I feel like I am next to you and you have read my mind for any questions I may have in the situation. Are you on Instagram? Besides Naver, are there other apps for restaurant recommendation? Thank you so much. And all the best in your next adventure. I know you guys will do great~!!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ช

  3. Hi Matt, I was wondering u be keen to do a video on payment methods in Korea? Like youtrip cards, credit cards n t-money vs cash… just a suggestion for ur consideration. Thank you for all ur awesome videos that are ao authentic and sincere! Thanks!๐Ÿ˜Š

  4. Wow, looks like you are getting a lot more views. I am glad more people are enjoying your great work. I want everyone to subscribe and support you two !

  5. Most samgyeopsal places are crowded, cramped, and filled with noisy ajummas. That first place looked like a refreshing change of pace.

  6. This video couldnโ€™t have come at a better time. Def need this before we go to Korea next month. It is daunting how many Korean bbq places there are. To know whatโ€™s good . Thankyou guys, will def be adding these places to my list! โค

  7. Thanks for the tips! At the chicken grill place, are the chicken pieces already marinated in soy sauce? I'm gluten intolerant and soy sauce in Korea in restaurants almost always contains wheat ๐Ÿ™ do you think it is possible to ask for unmarinated meat?

  8. Hello, new viewer here, i enjoyed your channel and looking forward to see you venture on your new home. Definitely will wait for your new video everytime. Aja!

  9. We visited Jongsamyuk (์ข…์‚ผ์œก) this afternoon based on the video and found it EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS! We got there a few minutes before they opened (2pm) and had to wait to be the 1st ones in the restaurant and it was absolutely worth the wait!
We ordered the pork belly and skirt steak and the cold noodles. Our order came to KW 45,000 and well worth it.
We appreciated the menu on a table outside the restaurant so we could see what they had – and was able to use the Google Docs file we printed before we got there so we were prepared to use that to help us order, but with the menu items also in English, ordering was very easy.
Our waiter cooked our meat for us (greatly appreciated) then cut it into bite-sized pieces, which we gobbled up.
Remembering from the video the notion of dipping the 1st bite of pork belly into the salt was absolutely HEAVEN.
The only problem we had was in getting to the restaurant. I should have copied the entire address of the restaurant to provide to the cab driver as the restaurant name (Jongsamyuk (์ข…์‚ผ์œก)) was no help (to the driver) which caused some delay in understanding where we needed to go, and a web search also displayed a restaurant with the same name in Los Angeles, CA, which was even more confusing.
We won't need to eat for the rest of the day, as we want to savor the taste from our meal. The portions were adequate and filled us, though younger and more hearty eaters might consider another meat or side (rice) dish.
Thank you for posting the video and the recommendation. We'll try to visit them one more time before we leave (after 3 more days) even though it is a bit far from our hotel (which is not near any subway).

  10. Just as feedback: we came back from Korea last week and we tried the hanu place you mentioned. it was incredible! Thank you for the tip. Also, as a tip to anyone struggling with gluten intolerance that isn't tied to celiac disease: try Trimebutine maleate from a Korean pharmacy. This is what I got there and it worked beautifully as I wasn't able to 100% avoid gluten (soy sauce is in almost everything). Didn't have any issues, which is miraculous. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. My husband and I are going to Seoul for the first time next week, and ordering/eating at restaurants has been one thing that has made me nervous. Not necessarily stressed about ordering from a menu since Papago is great, but more so nervous about not knowing how ordering works at different restaurants. Thank you for showing what to expect so I can feel more confident to try a place that isnโ€™t just ordering on a kiosk ๐Ÿ˜Š

  12. Just a little note to say thank you for this video. I went to Hanwoo Madang a few weeks ago and ordered exactly what you did. It was the best meat I've tried, beating Kobe for flavour! Since my last visit to Korea, I'm now in a wheelchair. Your video let me see inside and with Google Maps help, I was able to see if it would be suitable for me. The staff were lovely, storing my wheelchair and helping me up the step to the first table (with the help of Google Translate ๐Ÿ™‚ of course)

  13. Greatly appreciate your channel and content – keep it up!

One other term which you could add to your BBQ Vocabulary Guide is Grilled Clams/Seafood – Jogae-Gui / Jogaegui (์กฐ๊ฐœ๊ตฌ์ด). I love all Korean BBQ but fresh Jogae-Gui is my favourite!

Normally it's best/freshest near the coast. Some places offer fixed price/all you can eat, other places charge based on what you order (which can quickly add up if you aren't careful).

Hope we get to see you try some as you travel to Busan and other coastal spots in your van. Safe travels!

  14. Hi! Thanks for the recommendations. I was in Korea in September and we went to a pork kkbq restaurant ran by a husband and wife. We had to leave the station by going up a elevator and onto the street where there were stairs. We had to go left and down the hill. I can't remember what it was called and I want to go again when I visit in the spring. Do you have any idea what it's called. The only thing I can remember is that it was west of myeongdong and the ratings were really high. Not anything fancy. Again I remember they only served marinated pork. We got some type of seafood stew and the rice had red bean paste in it I believe. It is a local spot for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated and keep the videos coming in.
