If it wasn’t inside Tokyo already, Shinjuku would be a destination city on its own. Just exiting the train station is an exercise in direction and spatial relations. Then you stumble outside to find a whole new skyline of amazing buildings and iconic streets.
I can’t say that I appreciate all of the entertainment options that are available in Shinjuku, but it is like Cocomelon for the adult brain. It’s like the anti-Kyoto. There is no quiet. There is no rest; nowhere to rest your eyes on something calming or on something you have seen before. The entertainment is at ground level, packing every floor of the buildings towering above you, and in underground mazes beneath the streets.
It’s a lot.
