Hokuto Express from Toyako to Sapporo (4K) (Minimap)
Continuing the travel after recording the sunrise. I had some time to explore Toyako town, which was nice and peaceful, before catching the train again – extending my trip from the day before that got us here. Unfortunately the sun was causing issues on the first half of the train leg – both in terms of glare and my phone overheating. So the shutter was down and so were my eyelids at times. I had reserved a sea facing seat, but honestly the best views might have been towards the mountains – but then from Chitose onwards the views across the plains towards the northern hills were really nice.
After arriving at Sapporo my route to the hotel took me past a couple of the key sights – the Clock Tower building, and the TV Tower, as well as one of the quite spectacular moving crab signs. I had specifically chosen a room with a view of the park – check out my sunset time-lapse recorded from the window-sill. Then I found dinner at the Autumn Festival, the reason for my trip to Hokkaido on this holiday, catching it on the final weekend. But whatever the time of year, Sapporo is a lovely destination.
