I am beyond excited for you to step inside my DIY van build—a cozy cabin on wheels that I’ve called home for over 4 years. Built entirely by myself with no prior experience, this simple yet functional design reflects the freedom and creativity of van life. In this full van tour, I’ll show you how I transformed a basic van into a rustic off-grid haven, perfect for long-term travel and minimalist living. Whether you’re dreaming of van life, planning your own DIY build, or just curious about life on the road, this video is packed with ideas things I’ve learned from years on the road & tiny living. Join me for an inside look at my 4-year journey in this self-built van!

  1. Hi Linnea,
I am interested in getting a small stove like yours. Can you supply me with the name and model so I can put one in my camper?
    Thank you, Dave

You can't go wrong with the 'wood' look. I never could understand the appeal of the clean, sterile 'Ikea' style. We're all a product of our past and I'm a fan of the warm and cozy look. No style is wrong, and variety makes the world go round.
Also, smart choices on your power. I'm designing a build around 12V so that I only have to turn on an inverter when I have to run a high current device which would require a more robust system at 12V (Lower voltage, higher current, heavier cables and components). There's plenty of low wattage 12V stuff out there, so why design around 120V if you don't have to.

  3. ❤❤❤ Hope your holidays were great. I worry about you on that ladder girl! But been loving and watching you for a few years now. Van is perfect. Ps. I would love to find out how to possibly request a hide for someone special when you get back into it. All my love Linnea-always so inspiring! 💯🐕🏔️🚐🌲〽️

  4. I have been with you since you purchased your ProMaster. I finally bought my own PM low roof (fits in my garage), 136” in 2022. Thank you for sharing your build, your experience and now how it still fits your life so well. Thanks to your encouragements, my build fits me and my needs perfectly for extended travel, dispersed camping, and even as a cargo van as everything inside is easily removable except insulation, paneling, built in lighting and fans. I’m 71 now and loving my retired life in my simple cabin on wheels with my Mountain Bikes and minimalist essentials. Happy New Year 🎉

  5. Been here since I dont know when??? Maybe covid. Ive followed you on here and Instagram. I enjoy watching your growth, bravery, learning desires, love and loss and love again, family…etc.
You go girl you rock 🎉❤😊

  6. "No. It's a floor." I like your attitude. I'm glad YT suggested your video to me. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Beats me why people think white makes things look bigger. In dim light, white would just look grey and cheerless. The wood looks wonderful. Re. the hand-made mugs: that made me smile; I tried pottery in 2002 and I still have a few of my weird mugs with too-big handles! lol

  7. Thank You 🧡
Inspiring as always! The holidays were busy and I realized how much I missed watching your magical journey!
    Looking forward to the next!

  8. I've been a fan for more than two years and truly enjoy your content, lifestyle, personality and above all Akela. I have the same van, just a bit longer, used it extensively for 4 years, but not full time, with my pups Nacho. I lost her 10 days ago after more than 16 years and my heart is broken. Believe it or not, when I got into my van without her the following day my soul screamed and I thought of you two, girls. The void they leave behind is not possible to patch. I lost my son, almost 5 years ago and Nacho saved my life. Now my son's cat Napoleon is saving me, again. Anyway… sorry to bother you with this. I have a question regarding your locks.
I installed Thule locks on the outside and improvised the locking system on the inside with chain, hook, carabiner… all doors have different system, taht works, However, Thule on the sliding door broke down twice. I think it must be the dirt, rust or both that make it unusable. What is the lock you used on your van? I live in Canada and haven't seen such locks.
Once again, keep doing what your heart desires. You are inspiration to many, and joy to me.

UPDATE: Found your video about lock installation. 🙂

  9. I admire you so much. You are living my dream life. Your camper is amazing and lovely. I love your cabinets!! Your wood stove is great – a lot of people have wood stoves in their campers. I have a wood stove in my home and love it. You are so personable and fun !! Happened adventures!! At 76, I will live through you, my dear. 👍🏻👍🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️

  11. Happy new year! I've enjoyed watching you build out your" Studio", and the Property and gardening video with your Momma was so fantastic❣You are very Fierce, and courageous !

  12. Your van is beautiful and your doggie is adorable. Please maybe reconsider using jar candles as I had anxiety watching the candles sitting near your hat!

  13. I just discovered your channel. You really impress me with all you’ve done and built! I’ll be watching all your videos. I have an old school 1992 Chevy G20 named Luna. I am not handy in any way, so I did a no build and I’m quite thrilled with it! I am only a very part time van person, as I have a disabled husband. I like to just go out in my van right in our driveway and read. I call it my escape pod. It’s a stress reliever for me.

  14. I came across your videos very recently and have fallen in love!!! I’ve been binge watching to catch myself up. lol. BEAUTIFUL

  15. We love the wooden stove. We want to also put one in our new van that we will build. And we also love the way you explain everything and the simplicity of your van.Greetings from two greek 🇬🇷vanlifers

  16. I did a cargo build conversion in 2022 and your videos really help me figure out the electrical so thanks so much I did all the electrical by myself and women explain better than men I find but that’s true.

  17. Don’t listen to people I hate anything that is painted it’s this generation that discovered paint in their lifetime and they ruined everything with ugly paint. Wood is BEAUTIFUL 😍

  18. You are an incredibly amazing women! I enjoyed your video so much! I look forward to watching many more! God bless & watch watch over you & your fur baby 🙏❤

  19. It’s crazy sounding to me when u say it’s been 5 yrs because I have watched u since the beginning n I even remember u putting on the locks. I also remember the diesel heater n how u we’re going to run the little cute muffler, lol
On another note u r 1of the original channels that have inspired my own business build, so thank you❤

  20. What do u mean there is legal pressure to build? U r not allowed to own property for other things or reasons but to live on it there has to be a “house” that is permanently connected to the ground? Some of the rules or laws that r in place just sometimes don’t make sense to me. If someone wanted to own property n live in a tent on it then why shouldn’t they be allowed to if we r really the land of the free? Yes it might be hard to do that but if that person is willing to put in the hard work then what’s the problem, they r not putting anyone else in harms way n they r not bothering anyone else. A city standard I can understand having more guidelines because of just safety reasons that r to many to put here but I really think most of the property guidelines r just diff ways for the state to get more money from u. Permit fees to taxes they charge u for everything n then make it mandatory within a certain amount of time n they will give u more fines on top of that if u don’t comply n it’s all about the money. I’m sure the person who keeps calling is on the side of making sure the state gets there money! Most “Karen’s” don’t fully agree with the government of course but they do a great job of providing for them

  21. It must be nice to have all of these men give you all of this stuff for free or for Pennie’s on the dollar just because you’re a woman. How about doing a video of yourself disguised as a man and see how much help you get. I would love to see that one.

  22. When I got my first home in 1984 in Alaska it had an old woodstove. Every home I've lived in since then except for two, had wood stoves. Even if you don't use it much it's good to have as a back up heat source. I bought my childhood home and remodeled it. It has a perfect niche for my woodstove.
