Is this business class or not? JAL’s mysterious “J Class”
Most airlines have a choice of economy and first/business class. But Japan Airlines (JAL) has a rather odd middle ground product called “J Class” that they only operate on certain routes. Is this “poor man’s business class” worth it? Let’s find out on this flight from Matsuyama to Tokyo.
This flight was part of a larger award ticket using 80,000 American Airlines miles.

you are already flying in 2005? I was not even born yet.
DON DON DON DONKI!!!! DONKI QUIXOTE!!!!
Thats one odd configuration for Business Class 😮
While there isn't much on offer, it's a flat $7 or $14 upgrade depending on the distance for all domestic flights at the check-in desk so I do think it serves a certain demand!
Donki is life
Class J is often mistaken as business class, but it’s actually economy plus or premium economy.
That would be JDM domestic business class, certainly not the international “J” we are used to, but I’d say it’s still better than typical intra-European business class 🤷
