Aomori Japan – Record Winter Storm Snow

In November we flew all the way to Finland for snow and the winter vibe and we got cheated. It was very cold, but was in the midst of a snow no show and that made me angry. So I swore at #Ullr – the Norse God of Snow, I screamed The Japanese can build a better snow machine than you! and I will go to Aomori before the year is over and you will see proper snow!
So Evelyn and I booked a 1 week Stay in #aomori Japan and we will count how many days it snowed.
Welp, It snowed every day in Aomori and most amazing is how normal it was for the locals of Aomori and we learned that because there is a tall mountain behind Aomori it creates a sort of Goldilocks Zone for winter snowfall on a city that starts at sea level. The cold Siberian winds pick up moisture from the warmer and never frozen Sea of Japan.
To contrast how special Aomori is regarding perfect conditions we include a trip to Hakodate, Japan, also on the coast and just 100 km as the crow flies (62 miles) to the North. Same sea, Same winds but no Japanese Alps blocking the moisture laden clouds leaving Hakodate with an annual snowfall average of just 140 cm compared to Aomori’s 792 cm.
The best part is we discovered a gem, Aomori overwhelmed us with all its unique treasures, Its Apples, Its Vibe, Its undiscovered by travel influencer purity, its snow monsters and its Sukayu Onsen tucked away under a 4 meter thick blanket of Snow.
Im not A famous travel Vlogger, Im just an artist that records his travels with a DJI camera (the best one) and an IPhone so my video unprofessionally switches between 16×9 and 9×16 views. But that’s ok I think and I hope anyone that has read this to its end will appreciate this post.
