This allows visitors to appreciate up close the intricate craftsmanship and artistic beauty of these Fascinating artworks, created by dedicated people known as “Nebuta-Shi” The Nebuta Matsuri is characterized by its larger than life illuminated paper floats known as “Nebuta.” These floats are made of wood, wire frames, and washi paper painted with vibrant colors that come to life with the lighting system installed inside. The floats depict various Japanese mythical and historical figures of impressive sizes. Some of them measure up to 30 feet and stretch up to 16 feet in width weighing several tons.
During the festival, the floats are paraded through the streets of Aomori City. They are accompanied by energetic taiko drumming, traditional music, and enthusiastic shouts from participants.
