0:07 bridge

1:07 The only tunnel on this route. We’ll take a detour.

2:00 I took a detour. Old tunnels are scary.

3:20 Sandals over shoes?

3:41 Coal mining housing. Abandoned.

4:06 If you turn right, you will see the location and set of the movie “Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness”. I will go there later.

6:20 The former Shikanotani Station. A transfer station for the Yubari Railway, which was closed in 1974.
It was a 53.4km line to Nopporo Station on the national railway.

7:24 Yubari Railway platform

8:50 From the top of the pedestrian bridge.
It was a fairly large site, with a freight yard, a Yubari Railway garage, and a repair shop.

10:36 It seems that it ran parallel to the Yubari Railway for a while.

10:50 bridge

11:23 The bridge is gone. We’ll take a detour.

12:33 It’s a new and beautiful apartment building, but there’s no sign of anyone there.

13:32 The large building is Hotel Mount Racey. It is an abandoned hotel.

13:49 The hotel was formerly a large coal mining factory.

  2. Removing a section of bridge, JR Hokkaido really wants to make sure the Yubari line never reopens

  3. The rails crossing roads are removed quickly. It would seem easier and cheaper to leave them and patch the rails with bitumen. They also spend a fortune on railings at the crossings, too.
