This video shows you the ordinary snowy streets of Asahikawa, a walk around the Toyoka district, located to the east of Asahikawa.
This area is relatively close to the center of Asahikawa, so it has a relatively high volume of traffic and a fair number of shops, making it a typical urban area of the city.

It doesn’t have the casual atmosphere of the shopping streets or entertainment districts in the city center, but it can be considered a typical streetscape of this town.

It’s not like Europe, where buildings are orderly aligned, nor is it like Tokyo, where everything is densely packed. Instead, the area gives an impression of scattered buildings interspersed with open spaces.

Additionally, I’m also introducing a popular local spot.

Enjoy your walk!

  1. Thank you for sharing. A nice sunny Saturday walk. Nice café and restaurant discoveries (descriptions help, thanks). Is it sunny often in winter? I recommend a few videos by Frank (5 am Ramen), my favourite ramen explorer: 'Japan's coldest city's ramen' and 'Ramen in the frozen north of Japan'. Have you visited all of those places? Do you have a favourite ramen restaurant(s) in Asahikawa?

  2. Wonderful video! You mentioned the lack of buses. My daughter is going to school in Asahikawa this year, and she has to take two buses to get to her school. I think it takes her close to 2 hours to get there!

Is the snow a problem for all the flat-roofed building? I noticed someone shoveling a roof at the start of the video.
