The Very Best of UK Steam Trains on the Mainline in 2024!

Merry Christmas Everyone! As a special treat for you guys on Christmas Day, Here’s the Very Best of UK Steam Trains on the Mainline in 2024 that I filmed during the year. This year has been a pretty busy year for steam trains on the mainline. I’ve been up and down the country filming various steam engines in the usual places as well as places I’ve never filmed before which was exciting. Even if there were some bad moments during the year, it was overshadowed by the best moments.

It includes a historic recreation of the Z48 Tour hauled by 7029 Clun Castle on my 30th Birthday to Plymouth. Two Great Western Castles, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and 7029 Clun Castle roaring up the South Devon Banks with The Mayflower. 60532 Blue Peter long awaited return to the main line, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley returns to Devon. Two steam engines up Shap Bank on the same day. The extended Shakespeare Expresses and a lot of Bulleid Pacific power as well as the Ian Riley Black Fives rescue mission during the year.

The locomotives featured in the video are:

– 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe
– 7029 Clun Castle
– 35028 Clan Line
– 34046 Braunton
– 34067 Tangmere
– 60532 Blue Peter
– 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley
– 45596 Bahamas
– LMS Black Five – 44871
– LMS Black Five – 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier
– 46100 Royal Scot
– 70000 Britannia

Many thanks to Vintage Trains, The Railway Touring Company, Saphos Trains, and Steam Dreams for making these events possible during 2024, and let’s hope that 2025 brings even more exciting tours with more locos returning to service. Credit also goes to all the footplate and support crews for keeping these amazing locomotives in top notch condition and getting the very best out of them on a regular basis.

Also, A big thanks to all my subscribers and viewers for your comments and support throughout the year, you guys have been so supportive and generous. Let’s hope that 2025 is as good if not better. I hope you guys love the video.

  1. A very nice compilation! Great to see 70000 going well. It was deemed to be scrapped, as 70013 was in better condition for the National Collection, but was saved by preservationists.
