⁴ᴷ Shizuoka: Shimizu Station (静岡県: 清水駅) – Japan Walking Tour (December, 2024)
It’s getting colder, so I decided to head west in Japan. I was planning to tour the major cities in Shikoku, so I crossed the sea and took a ferry from Tokushima to Wakayama, then traveled through Osaka, Shiga, Gifu, and Aichi, finally arriving in Shizuoka Prefecture.
There aren’t many people around Shimizu Station. Right in front of the station, there’s a fairly impressive covered shopping arcade called Shimizu Ekimae Ginza. Beyond that lies Ejiri-juku, an area that was once a post town along the old Tokaido during the Edo period. It has a really nice atmosphere as a shopping street. On my previous visit, I turned back to the station from there, but this time I decided to venture a bit farther to Jirocho-dori. I misjudged the distance; it was much farther than I expected, and I had to pass through some very dark residential areas before finally reaching it.
