🇯🇵Since 1926 Eel Daishin Kumamoto Kyushu Japan

Merry Christmas everyone. Had a special local lunch today at a 4 generation owned, 98 year old restaurant Eel Daishin. Unadon, a specialty of the southernmost main island of Japan, Kyushu, Kumamoto style. Unagi, grilled eel, over white rice with a thick dark sauce made with sake, mirin wine, soy sauce, and sugar. The eel is grilled kabayaki style and caramelized in the sauce. Delicious! In an old wooden, samurai sword and art decorated, local spot in the center of the city. With some nice sides and green tea. Origins of the dish are from the Edo period from around Tokyo actually and it spread through the country.
